Summary

In the labour market, content AND form are decisive: To stay ahead in the competition for new employees, it’s not just the content of your job adverts and career pages that needs to be convincing, but also the application process itself.

The second of three parts of the softgarden Candidate Experience Study 2020 looks at what exactly is important to applicants in this regard, how digital application processes should be structured and how long they should take before applicants drop out.

For this survey, softgarden interviewed 6,720 real applicants. Unsurprisingly, poor processes put off a large proportion (64.4%) of applicants. Particularly unpopular: complex form applications with compulsory registration. The Candidate Experience Study 2020 also emphasises once again that cover letters are no longer considered mandatory.

Another important point is the behaviour of recruiters and hiring managers in the application process. As part of the employer brand, it has a major influence on applicants’ decisions. It is therefore all the more surprising that many people criticise the behaviour of those responsible on the company side and list various negative experiences. At the same time, the participants in the Candidate Experience Study 2020 reveal which three behaviours of recruiters impress them the most.

The seven tips for the candidate journey at the end of the study are another valuable resource. They can help your company position itself optimally on the labour market.
