Summary

Why do employees really change jobs? As part of the softgarden study „Job Change 2022“, 2,196 participants revealed their reasons for changing jobs and the relevant circumstances. Key finding: Most applicants are on the market voluntarily. 57.0% apply from an existing employment relationship.

The three most important reasons for changing jobs are particularly valuable from a recruiter’s perspective. These are not only broken down in general terms, but also according to professional experience, thus providing companies with concrete pointers for optimising their recruiting.

On the other hand, the Job Change study shows that more than one in ten applicants quit their job without having an alternative in sight. They are not just looking for a new job, but a clear improvement. Another sign of a labour market that offers favourable conditions from the candidate’s point of view.

Another important piece of information about the current labour market is the reasons for changing jobs according to educational level: this reveals differences that companies should definitely take into account when designing their application processes. With the seven tips for employers at the end of the study, employers not only convince candidates willing to change jobs – they also manage to keep their best employees in the company in the long term
